Northern Ireland Police Uniforms - Current

I really don't know if the police in Northern Ireland all wear the same uniform but does anyone know if the sergeant stripes/chevrons on the epaullettes point up towards the neck or down towards the number/shoulder?

I've tried searching online but have not been able to get a conclusive answer.

They point down towards the shoulder.  I have a photo somewhere of one of my relatives in their uniform which confirms this.

maybe it depends on if the sarge is an optimist or a pessimist?

Think of it logically.  The Irish (and the Scots) are a contrary lot.

Whatever way the thingy hangs in England you can be sure the Irish do it the opposite way.

I expected them to point down, too.  It looks odd to me having the 'collar number' under a Japanese pagola.  😁

Because I glanced at the tv this afternoon when an Northern Irish drama was on and the stripes were pointing up.  I was about to write to Radio Times to complain about the incompetence of the wardrobe department.

BGT - people actually complain about the skimpy outfits the ladies wear!😂

I confess only to being a cereal eater :)  

People used to complain about the outfits Pans People wore on Top of the Pops.  Times haven't changed that much

Watching Blue Lights - where I'm sure the uniforms are thoroughly researched and accurate - I was surprised to see that they all wore name badges on the front of their uniforms with their full name on it.

 

I'd have thought that in the still-febrile atnosphere in Northern Ireland that would be putting the officers at risk.

I haven't seen Blue Lights, maybe I should.

Their uniforms have shown their names since 2002, I believe the number is sufficient
