There are black spots on the tops of most of them.

I'm thinking it's mould.  Best to bin them?

I would.  It's happened to me.  They don't seem to last as long in the freezer as other green veg.

It is not mould. It is oxidisation from before they were frozen. It is perfectly safe to eat.

Too late now, they're in the compost bin.  I'll know better next time.

So... one needs to know the reason for the black colour.

I suppose better safe than sorry. But inspecting before freezing may help. Can't imagine there's much mould growth at freezer temperatures.
