Anyone here have a double, ie look alike, or experienced a situation like that?

I have had it happen to me twice in my lifetime.

Once I was walking in our local town, and a passer by who I didn't know said 'hey you going to the Stag tonight? Stag being a pub, but I didn't drink in the Stag, or know anyone in there. So I just politely said sorry no I don't drink in there, and the guy looked puzzled and walked off.

Then the 2nd time was in a COOP, when me and my partner went in just to get a few groceries, and we got to the til, and the lady serving us suddenly blurted out, hey wasn't it a great night at the social club last night, I stood there speechless because I was at work that night. Luckily for me my partner knew I was at work, but it could have so easily got me in trouble. So I replied sorry I think your mistaken me for someone else. I wouldn't mind but I don't even visit the village she was referring to.

But you begin to see how mistaken identity can get innocent people in trouble.

Anyone had this happen?

I always have a double, a single would just get lost in the tonic 🙃

At the pub I used to drink in, in Sheffield, people were always confusing me with another regular.

I moved down here to Suffolk and the same thing started happening in my new watering hole!

On my first ever visit to Birmingham, I walked directly from New Street Station to a pub just down the road for lunch, only to be told by the landlord that I was barred! (As soon as he heard my voice though, he apologised and told me that I'd obviously got a double in Birmingham!).

I went into the Kitchen Bar in Belfast once and ordered a drink.

The barman brought it and said it was on the house.  Noticing my puzzled look he asked, Aren't you my bank manager?

I wasn't and he was gracious enough not to look for payment.

When I started going out with my future first husband, he showed me a photo of his previous girlfriend.  It was a bit like looking in a mirror.

Seems to be a running theme here... hmm🤔

An old friend of mine whom I hadn't seen for a few years at the time run into my Brother in a pub and greeted him with "You've put on weight, you fat B*****"
He thought it was me. 🤣

A security guard at a garden centre was the spitting image of me. I said to him ‘You look just like me’. He replied ‘yes, I know’.

Yes, as an identical twin, I do indeed have a double.

But it would appear I have further doppelgangers. On one occasion I was visiting Cheltenham which was close to where my brother lived at the time and a gent who clearly thought he knew me approached and said,"Hullo, how's things". Not knowing him from Adam but suspecting what had happened, I replied,"You think I'm Harry Canary, but I'm his twin Tom". He replied, "Oh no, I thought you were Dick Smith". So I must have two doubles !

But it doesn't stop there, at work I was called Clem because of an alleged resemblance to Clement Freud. Coincidentally the kids at the school where my twin taught called him Minced Morsels*, so they obviously also saw the likeness.

[Names changed to protect anonymity]

*Clement Freud used to advertise Minced Morsels dog food on the TV.

Back in the late 60's, I was walking down Hope St in Liverpool, when a load of youngsters came rushing over asking for my autograph. They thought I was Peter Thompson and when they heard me speak Manc, that was enough for them to leave!

Another time I was on a bus when a guy started talking to me about the great night we'd had "last saturday in The Ram", a pub that used to be in Newton Heath but I'd never been in there.

These days, people say I'm the double of Carl Fredricksen, from UP. 😄

Was his pooch, a bloodhound, called Henry?

Thankfully, for someone else, I don't have a double😒
