Can I post a home-made cake from UK to USA?

What are the restrictions on posting food to the USA? I would like to post a Christmas Cake to a friend in the USA - I know I am a little ahead of myself as it is still only February, but she is interested in my recipe and has never tasted Christmas Cake before and so I thought it would make an ideal holiday gift.
