Whats the name

Does anybody know what the name is of the plastic thing that keeps cans together. If you buy 4 cans of beer it is normally on them. A friend says it hasn't got a name but surely it must have.

Don't know exactly what they're called - but I do know I hate the things. The picutre of a dead bottle nosed dolphin with one of those awful things jammed on his snout so he starved to death will stay with me for a long time.

They are supposed to last 10,000 years in landfill so many of them could make their way to the sea in that time. I cut every one I find - please do the same, at least you'll know there is one less potential killer out there.
