jelly

when we were younger, my dad used to make a dessert using jelly and carnation milk, i think i remember him leaving the jelly to half set and then adding the evaporated milk, i cant remember if this is all that he did to it, or if the milk was heated up, does anyone have any ideas as to what it could have been an how i can make it?

Hope you enjoy.
This is my Mums recipe:
Melt a quarter of a jelly in a little hot water. Beat a small tin of carnation until it is frothy and thick then add the jelly and beat well. Put in fridge to set.
The thing to remember is to beat it REALLY well or you end up with the jelly settling at the bottom. In the days before electric whisks the family would pass the bowl round the table with everyone having a turn at whisking for perhaps the whole afternoon!
