I like to start the day with a strong black coffee (1 & 1/2 teaspoons to a small cup) and normally use Tesco Gold (now 1.09 a jar !) I thought I would give Waitroses own a try (on several occasions which I think is 1.89 a jar) to be quite dissapointed - it tastes rather bitter with after tastes. Assuming they are both pure blends of Coffee beans is it just my taste preference on the Tesco brand or is there some hidden ingriedient ?

I think its probably a question of personal taste Creepy, instant coffee can vary greatly depending on brand/supplier etc. so youre probably better off just finding one you like and sticking to it irrespective of cost.

I MUST have a good filter coffee in the morning - no instant comes close - but during the day if theres no tea about I only like really cheapo instant stuff because its quite mild (I think they pad it out with chicory)!

Haven't tried Waitroses Creepy as we don't have one near where we live so can't comment.

What I can say is I too like 1&1/2 teaspoon coffee in a small cup & must tell you that Marks & Spencers Rich Italian roast is fab (& it's now Fairtrade). It's not as cheap (about 1.80) as Tescos Gold but it is very nice. Give it a try.

I like proper filter coffee and we use coffee that we get in Germany but for a nice instant coffee we have been buying Tchibo Harmony .1.99 a jar in Somerfields .I use one and half spoonfuls for a good cup..Not bitter at all.. They do other roasts as well .Best instant coffee I have tasted for a while.
