Red Bananas

I went to Morrisons the other day and saw some red bananas how do you get red bananas? what does the farmer do to make them red? or is this a natural colour?

also I have also seen purple cauliflower how is this so as well??

Well centuries ago carrots were apparently purple or white...with the occasion genetic freak being orange.

But the farmers then bed the orange ones and the purple ones and white ones virtually died out.

Amazing what you learn on Countryfile!!!! lol

you can change the colour of pink flowers to blue by placing a piece of copper pipe or a penny by the roots, so maybe it some kind of metal content of the soil...?

BTW, has anyone tried the red bananas?

I remember an experiment on tv a few years back where blindfolded people were fed strange coloured foods - blue mash and green custard and so on.

They couldn't tell anything was 'different' about it - but could not face eating it when they could see it, even though they knew it would taste ok.

ethel - farmfoods do crinkle cut chips made with potato but also peas, carrots and turnip i think. they come out pale green, orange and yellow and taste only slightly different from potato. i'll bet kids love them, not realising why they are that colour.

good way to feed them veg too

Oh how dissapointing! The red bananananas are still white inside lol Am I the only stupid person who was hoping they would be red inside too? (and yes I do know that yellow bananas are white inside lol)
