Sugar in fruit

Is the sugar in fruit same as the sugar to sweeten cakes? also does the sugar in fruit cause tooth decay?

The sugar in fruit is called fructose, the sugar in cakes is glucose - it comes from sugar cane or sugar beet.

Fruit does not cause tooth decay in the way sweets and cakes will - but certain citric fruits isuch as oranges can cause your teeth to erode as they have a high acidic content.

Following on from Ethel, other fruits are high in acid but people aren't aware because they don't taste acidic. Strawberries are one and apples are another.

I would have to half-disagree with Ethel. The sugar derived from sugar cane and sugar beet is sucrose.

Following on from the follow ons:

The "experts" now say that if you eat an apple you must clean your teeth half/hour after because of some chemical reaction on the plaque. Not straight after because it takes that length of time to react!! Strange!!
