How do I tell if my gas is running out on the barbie. On Saturday it kept going out. I swirled it around and could hear liquid sloshing about inside but don't know how to tell how much longer it will last Hours or seconds ?? Don't want to get all the chaps round and have no fire to cook with.!!

the lighter it gets the less there is in there. If you know how much it weighed when its was full, should tell you on the neck of the bottle somewhere, you can weigh it again and see what the difference is which will give you a more accurate indication

If you hear liquid you still have a fair bit left, even when there no liquid it still runs for while after that.

Have ya barbie and don't worry about it, you will proberbly need a new one after though.

there are inexpensive gauges available that will tell you how much you havfe left... or, you can pour a cup of cold water over the bottle from the top down. You'll notice a line forming on the bottle where the cold gas on the inside causes a condensation area on the side of the bottle that looks entirely different than the water running down the side. In certain weather conditions, this can actually turn to frost. Works for me every time...
Have just seen the gadget you need advertisied in one of those little Home Shopping brochures which fall out of Sunday papers. Coopers of Stortford (01279-757100) are selling these magentic gas level indicators which you place on the lower half of the cylinder and once the gas is turned on the colour of the bars will change below the liquid level telling you how much gas is left. The product reference is A252 and they cost 9.99 each. (Ref A 256 for 2 gauges for 16,98. (www.coopertsofstortford.co.uk) They can be used on a gas barbeque or the large gas cylinders for room heaters.
