Who's yours and why???

Mine's Rick Stein just sheerly because everything he does is super-fresh and from ingredients you can get in the UK without buying packaged.

I think he's especially talented when it comes to freshly-caught fish.

Anyone who calls himself a Chief gets up my nose, I like Carlucci, who calls himself a Cook.
Mine would be Gino D'Acampo because he cooks with flare and passion.

Also Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall because of his unconventional approach to cooking.
Ah yes Rick 'shell fish tastes better if it lives near a sewage outlet' Stein.

Personally love Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall!!
jamie Oliver's good but to tell you the truth, anyone except that idiot Gary Rhodes. Have you seen the amount of salt he throws in his food !!!!!!!!!
Ah - salt does add flavour!! Nothing worse than veggies cooked without salt! Blurgh!!

Salt, butter, cream - its all good in moderation!!
there are so many to choose from

james martin-cos he is yummy
gino d'acampo-cos he is yummy
gordon ramsay-cos he is yummy
phil vickery-cos he is yummy

but on a serious point, rick stein is probably one of the best.
Not strictly chefs, but John "Toad" Torode and "Greggs Pasty" Wallace from Masterchef Goes Large.

Originators of such gems as

"You have ruined a simple risotto" (JT)

"There's not much salmon swimming up the rivers of South East Asia (GW)"

"WOW! WOW! WOW!" (JT)

"A Nice Clean Happy Plate of Food" (both, incessantly)
...gordon ramsey, because he don't giva a toss if your a celeb or not before he chucks you out of his resteraunt...

.....john christoph nouvelli .....(phwoar)

I love james Martin - he can come and cook for me anyday and I have family from north of england so love his accent

I also loved the old Jamie Oliver styled Naked Chef progs before he started trying to copy Gordon Ramsay and F'n and blinding at apprentices
Surprised no one has mentioned the daddy of 'em all .........
.........Keith Floyd ,most of his recipes only use half a bottle of wine , I'll drink to that !!
Or the master from the orient ....Ken Hom !

Or am I going back too far in time

P.S .....two fat ladies , x x

I'll quit while I'm ahead then .
Agree with beerbelly, I'm a gastronaut too!! Have most of Floyd's books (and life story), and go along with slurp, slurp whilst cooking up a storm in the kitchen.....

Enjoyed watching Loccotelli, he's so funny!!
OOPS forgot to second Ken Hom...still using his crispy duck recipe............
and billy the auzzie coz he makes me laugh so much with his inane grin and winking at the camera, fantastic recipes too
Rick because he does great fish & Gordon because he's so enthusiastic and such a perfectionist.
Love Gino too, apart from the fact that he's sexy as hell he cooks a mean canelloni, gorgeous! Also agree with Gordon Ramsey and Keith Flloyd **** but I hate fish so as much as I like Rick Stein I hate the food he cooks!
Sorry, I did mean to say that Keith and Gordon rock but I think I must have made a typo and put a 'c' instead, sorry Editor ;o)
Stein's done some good stuff but I reckon he's a big old liar. In one of his shows he went to the NW coast of Scotland and went all dewey-eyed about a seafood cafe overlooking the sea; he saw a sign saying "Seafood cafe" pointing towards this place, went there, and was shown tucking into fresh prawns while waxing lyrical about how it's exactly the sort of place he loves - simple, cheap, local, etc. When we were on holiday in that bit of Scotland and couldn't find it, the locals said it was all fabricated, the place didn't exist, and it wasn't even filmed there anyway, it'd been filmed up the road at a rented holiday chalet overlooking a loch and others had tried looking for it too. The great big old fibber!

They were also enraged by Rhodes coming along to film and bringing a salmon with him from London. They pointed out to him that the Scottish highlands are known to produce some reasonable salmon.

I'm a little wary of chefs who choose to become TV stars. Sometimes they do good stuff - it can be quite entertaining watching Ramsey instilling some organisation and enthusiasm into lacklustre restaurants, and some of Oliver's recent projects have made interesting viewing. But ultimately I like chefs who stay in their kitchens and focus on being good chefs.
