I always liked jelly as a child, but as soon as my mother told me that it had 'bits of cow' in it I went off eating it. That was about 30 years ago.

Is it possible to get vegetarian jelly?

The Rowntrees quick-set jellies are vegetarian - they come in a sachet rather than in the cubes, and you can get them in Tesco's.
does it really have bits of cow in??????????????
Gelatine does not occur "free" in nature. It has to be made or manufactured. However, it is a natural ingredient, in that it derived from natural ingredients and has no additives. Nowadays, it is made mainly from beef bones and hides and pork skin, which contain protein collagen, the essential ingredient required for the production of gelatine.

It is a lengthy process in which extraneous substances, such as minerals, fats and albuminoids are removed by chemical and physical treatment to give a purified collagen. It involves several cleansing and purification steps and is finally dried in an air chamber, then processed into the end product (sheets, granules, powder)

yuck and double yuck.

Ignorance is actually bliss when it comes to some foods. I will try the Rowntrees jellies and see how they taste.

If we are eating cow bits in our jelly makes you wonder what "animal derivates" covers for pet foods.

A lot of sweets (candy) have gelatine used in the manufacturing process.

it isn't as if I am a vegetarian but I really think that it should be obvious which products contain meat products.

Does the word 'candy' cover chocolate too? I love chocolate - premenstrually, menstrually, postmenstrually and in all probability menopausally. Chocolate is medicinal, bow to the god of chocolate.
yes, you can buy sachets of vegetarian jelly in health food shops.

they have a slightly different texture but are very nice

it is also available at www.justwholefoods.co.uk
