The food issue seems to cause a lot of problems - but God didn't say you must not eat this or that - man did! Have a look at Acts10 and 11, 'Peter's vision' for the answer.

I suppose we've evolved a taste for 'meat' (animals have flesh, like us - I consider it 'meat' only in the context of food - yuck) because of it's nutritional benefits to our bodies. I'm not sure if we were programmed to seek out meat from the very beginning of our creation.

That's almost a quote from someone like bill hicks. I can't remember who exactly. I heard it like this: 'if we're not supposed to eat animals then why are they made of meat'. It's just something you say to p!$$ off vegetarians.
