I used to go to a great diner that mixed pecans into the batter. Then I'd put strawberry sauce on top, and maybe a little whipped ream. Ahh, Cleveland's, I miss you!
I've heard of making "sandwiches" with egg and ham etc between two waffles, then cutting up to serve to everyone.
Try making waffles for meals other than breakfast. Serve any kind of soupy-stewy meat dish on a waffle instead of rice -- makybe a curry? I'd make the batter a little less sweet than is usual for a breakfast. waffle.
