Cheese on toast
8 Answers
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cook Cheese on Toast just right? I always seem to end up with burnt corners and edges no matter how I do it. I can even cook only one side only and still happens.
Also I put a nice splash of Worcestorshire Sauce on for great taste.

Get the grill nice and hot and as soon as the cheese starts to melt, using a flat knife, smear the melting cheese right to the edges of the toast. That will protect the edges from burning. If you want something extra tasty, smear a little pickle or your favourite chutney on the second side of the bread, before you sprinkle on the cheese. Geeta's spicey mango chutney is particularly delicious if you like an Asian flavour.
This is a delicious take on "cheese on toast". Firstly, toast the bread on both sides (in a toaster) - white sliced bread works well with this. Then, put a generous layer of tomato ketchup on the toast, being careful to get it right up to the edges to prevent the edges burning when you grill the cheese.
Now, cover the ketchup with a generous layer of grated strong cheddar (not supermarket soap flavoured factory cheese) and then some dried fine herbs. Under the grill until the cheese is bubbling well and then enjoy!
