Is it possible to do the atkins diet by eating fish instead of meat? If so can anyone provide me with an example of a days menu? I'm really curious about the atkins diet and wouldn't mind trying it ( inspite of all the bad publicity!!).Thank you!
Low carbs and high protein and since fish is essentially protein I think Dr Atkins would approve (if you want to do the diet properly you mustn't read the book).
I think the thing with the Atkins diet is that it works and works quickly therefore people are keen to do it. The problem is it works in a similar way to not eating at all but removing an important part of your diet. I think people will find its very much like any other diet in that long term it will not work.
A friends dad is on this diet and has lost considerable weight. Although whether the diet is healthy or not is a different matter. I read a report recently in one of the broadsheet papers that said the Atkins diet creates kidney stones in women. I'm sure it's quiet a good diet to start off with to loose some pounds, but I'd say it's better to then switch to exercise and a sensible healthy diet to keep the weight off for good. It's been proven for years now that no diet is really good for you at all or works long term.
I'm not supporting the Atkins diet - I wouldn't try it myself, but the research that said the diet was based on 'pseudo science' was commissioned and funded by the Flour Advisory Board. Take that as you will.
Only if its Oily fish, like mackeral etc. And anyway Dr Aitkins died from slipping over and sustaining a major head injury, not from following his own diet. Not condoning the diet though, especially on a long-term basis.
