Has anybody got a recipe for a perfect Bread Pudding

5 slices bread, spread with butter and marmalade. Cut into triangles and put in a dish with a sprinkling of mixed fruit between layers. 2large eggs and half pint of milk beaten together with 2 tablespoons sugar. Pour milk mixture over and stand till liquid soaks in. Put water in a roasting tin and place your dish in. Bake for 30-45 mins. If insufficent liquid mix another egg with some milk. If you like sprinkle nutmeg or cinamon on top before baking.
I think that is Bread and Butter Pudding, Bread Pudding is something else.
I'll look it up and get back to you if somebody doesn't beat me to it.

BREAD PUDDING
225g(8oz) Stale Bread
110g(4oz) Currants,Raisins or Sultanas
50g(2oz) Brown Sugar
50g(2oz) Butter
�tsp Mixed Spice
1 Egg
Milk to mix

Pre-heat oven to 170�C 325�F:Gas 3

Break bread into small pieces; soak in cold water for at least 1 hour.
Strain and squeeze out as dry as possible.
Place in a basin and mash with a fork
Add the dried fruit, sugar and mixed spice, mixing well.
Add the egg and enough milk to enable the mixture to drop easily from the spoon.
Place into a greased baking tin.
Bake for an hour or until slightly firm to the touch.
When cooked turn out onto a hot dish and dredge with sugar. Serve with hot custard or allow to cool to eat sliced cold.

Jack Daniel's Bread Pudding

1 cup raisins
1/3 cup Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey
1 tablespoon orange zest
7 cups cubed white bread, lightly toasted
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
3 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Nutmeg
1/4 cup butter

Combine raisins, orange zest and Jack Daniel's in small bowl; soak about 20 minutes. Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Place bread cubes in prepared dish. Whisk together eggs and sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir in milk and vanilla. Fold raisin mixture into bread cubes. Pour custard over it all and let stand about 15 minutes. Sprinkle with nutmeg and dot with butter. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place in the center and bake pudding about 35-to-45 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm or cool, drizzled with heavy cream if desired. Makes 8 servings.
In my recipe above I omitted to add the butter. It needs to be mixed in at the same time as the dried fruit and sugar.
