After the Boxing day cold turkey and pickle lunch the jars would go back in the cupboard until they were thrown out in July! I do hope it they still seel it, it would be another part of my childhood snatched away.......
Originaly made by Maconochies who had factories in south east London and large farms in Hayes, Kent. In the 1950's the firm was taken over by Rowntrees who also aquired the Sun Pat company in Peckham and Hughes Biscuits in Birmingham. Rowntrees was subsequently swallowed up by Nestles who presumably still own the rights to the Maconochies name. Last seen and purchased in Sainsburys in 2002.
I came across this site only today when hunting for Pan Yan pickle. I had some last year which I bought in a supermarket but have been trying to find another jar since then with no luck. It's sad to see that it is no longer made but that is what I guessed had happened. I don't like the Branston and had to send one jar back because mould developed on the lid (it happened twice but I only sent one jar back) but I've not been able to source Pan Yan at all. Now I understand why. Bring back the Pan Yan I say.
