Making pickled onions

How long do the onions have to stand in the pickling vinegar before they are ready to eat? and any other tips, please

4-6 weeks mate
If you haven't started yet, give a thought to using shallots rather than plain old onions, they are the Rolls-Royce of pickled onions.

Should say as well that if you damage one, don't put it in the jar, it will make the others go soft, also for the past few years we have used Cider vinegar and find them much better using that.
