Why cant you put them in the oven?
I agree with filthie, my mate makes proper chips and just sprays them with a little oil and puts them in the oven.
Hi - yes I also still cook chips, and roast potatoes using Olive Oil. Just put a small amount of Olive Oil over the chips ( or par cooked potatoes for roasting ) and half way through cooking turn to brown other side.
This works extremely well if you want to also freeze them. Just cook to a light brown colour - then cool and freeze. Best to use a plastic freezer container for this. They can then be taken straight frm the freezer into the hot oven to cook
Really tasty and much healthier.
Hope this is of help.
Question Author
Thanks to all answerees. The reason I don't want to use the oven to make chips is because I think it's such a waste to have the oven on for such a long time for something as small as a few chips. Not being in his first flush of youth my husband cannot now eat a heap of chips but only requires a few! Hence the reason for using convection microwave.
