when i go out to eat the chutney is very runny and nice but when i buy from a shop its chunky and horrid why the difference?

'sandwich' chutney is much finer than the other stuff, but still not runny.... perhaps its just a brand thing.
Probably because the restaurants water it down to make it go further...

probably because it could have been made that day - what fancy restaurants term as 'chutney' is something cooked with sugar/vinegar/spices but not left to mature
Chutney should be solid ..not runny ..
You can buy sandwich chutney ,morrisons sell it and that is a little runny, it's very fine in texture.
