crackling in ears

My mum thought her ears needed syringing cos they kept crackling but the practice nurse told her that her ear drums are wax fee. Any idea what could be causing the crackling ? She won't see the doctor cos it's too trivial.

Very little to go on, but it could be that she has some fluid in the middle ear. Has she got a cold or perhaps some sinus problem?

is this noise something she has had previously or totally new to her now?

Certainly not too trivial to see a doctor.

Could be the onset of tinnitus?
