Prague Restaurants
3 Answers
I'm off to Prague on Tuesday for 4 nights as a birthday treat - can anyone who has experienced them, please recommend several good eating places, with a relaxed, informal dress code.
I only ask because I have heard some poor reports about restaurants in this city?

However, I can state that if you eat in the ones right on the tourist beat then you are certainly going to pay more for less. I found several good restaurants for lunch just by wandering a few minutes off the main tourist trail. Don't judge a restaurant by its outward appearance. Have a look inside as many of them are surprisingly spacious. In the evenings I would suggest staying on the main beat for food as there were a lot of dodgy looking characters about particularly near Charles bridge. There are a lot of good restaurants near the astronomical clock just off the old town square which would do for an evening meal. A little bit pricey though. Also many places add on a service charge with small print so you have to be careful about tipping them twice. As an aside. If you want a cab get your hotel to book it. Also the trams are very good value and very clean. Again your hotel should be able to supply you with vouchers. However, watch out for pickpockets.
When I was in Prague I ate at Kampa Park, which is on the river bank right by the castle side of the Charles Bridge. I can quite honestly say it was the best meal I have ever had, and the service was superb (Quite expensive for Prague, but worth every penny and cheap in comparison to the UK). Also, I totally agree with desertrat, go off the beaten track and don't be frightened to eat in a typical czech restaurant. Also, when in Wencesles Square, have a look out for a restaurant that is on one of the rooftops (you should see the Umbrellas!). You get a lift up to the restaurant and you can look over Prague. Another unspoilt secret......try to find the roof terrace of a place called The Bazaar......it's up by the castle, with terrific views, and definately worth a trip.....have a wonderful time in one of the worlds most beautiful cities.
