Disappearing peanut butter

Has anybody noticed the disappearance of supermarket own brand peanut butter (smooth and crunchy) for the past three weeks? There only seems to be organic or brands I have never heard of. If so any explanations??

Supermarkets have to make room for christmas products at christmas and so cull their own brands (the cheaper items) for these special promotions. When the christmas products are gone, the own brands return.

Also, people tend to purposely do bigger shops at christmas, and so pulling the cheaper items will boost profits. Supermarkets also like to boost their profits during the christmas period, so again, pulling the cheaper own brands will boost their totals.

You should switch to the Organic stuff anyway. The top brands and supermarket own brands have a lot of sugar and salt added. What is a healthy and nutritious products is spoiled by the added sugar and salt.

I believe that organic does not mean low fat and low sugar. I am afraid I am an organic sceptic!

Sugar - organic - 3.7g; Sun Pat 2.1g

So, the non-organic Sun-Pat has less salt and sugar than the organic.

This is definitely weird.

I've just reached inside my store cupboard for the peanut butter. I was confident that there was a partially-used jar of the stuff there. Further, I was 99% certain that there was an unopened jar as well. Mysteriously both jars have disappeared (so I had to have jam on my toast instead).

Then I returned to Answerbank and the very first question I read is headed 'Disappearing peanut butter'! Perhaps extra-terrestrials are beaming the stuff up, both out of my cupboard and from the supermarket shelves? ;-)

I'll be heading to Tesco tomorrow, in search of their 'Value' crunchy stuff. However, having read Trishy's post, I'm wondering if I'll find it. Tesco have been creating a big song and dance about their introduction of 'discount' brands. What they don't seem to mention is that many of these brands are replacing their own 'Value' lines, often with prices several times higher than what was previously on offer.

Lidl have a generic brand that I use for cooking and it is as good as the branded stuff - but half the price! (Still on sale cos I bought 2 jars yesterday!!)

I found some in Sainsburys just before xmas but the branded peanut butter was actually cheaper than the own brand!.. even though there was signage stating that sainsburys own brand peanut butter was 20% cheaper than the branded?!?!
