Ever had a CUSTARD SANDWICH?

Talking to old SAM , 70 summit years old.
Stayed in tyne-side and during the war , around 1942/43 he was talking about eating a custard sandwich.Apparently you could by tins of custard , powder i think , without egg in it , various flavours and this was nice between a few slices of bread.

Never heard of that though Ive heard of a piece on lard or dripping.Which is a dripping/lard sandwich .

During the war, and for a few years after, there was something called 'powdered eggs' (dehydrated eggs?). Perhaps the old guy meant this??

Hmm never heard of it but would imagine it tastes a bit like cold bread and butter pudding? but maybe not as sweet.

Yes, but when you cooked these 'powdered eggs' they looked like scrambled eggs (custard colored?) and you could make a sandwich with them I imagine.

Stewey tins of custard powder that came in different flavours , the custard didnt contain eggs he said.
So that kinda rules eggs out
