stainless steel are  the best ones.
I have one where you can put the whole unpeeled clove into a little pot thing, and squash it with another metal "arm" thing. The garlic comes out, and the skin stays in! yay!

That's the one I have as well Scarlett, and as you say you don't even have to peel the cloves.

It's brilliant - and made by  Zyliss of Switzerland.

Hate to be a purist but save your money, garlic is best just bruised/slightly crushed, use a broad knife and crush it a bit with the heel of your hand. Toodle pip
