Cold buffet.
21 Answers
My daughter is having a 40th at a venue that lets you prepare your own buffet. She would like to stay away from the usual stuff like sausage rolls and vol au vonts. Has anyone got any good ideas for finger foods that are a bit different. I have been asked to provide some of the food and I will have to make most of it the day before as she lives 50 miles away. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks xx.

There are also bowls of crisps, olives, cherry tomatoes, cubed veg., rolled up ham with slice of pineapple or whatever, pieces of chorizo, cubes of different cheeses with savoury biscuits....
I've often found for dessert nothing goes down better than individual strawberry tarts.
If you'd like the recipe for a 'cake' just say but tell me what kind of cake.

Crab and prawn cocktails
Bang bang chicken
Breaded mini chicken kievs
Mini tartlets
Mini teriyaki salmon
Mini yorkshire puds with rare roast beef and horseradish cream
Tandoori chicken skewers
Crostini with:
Goats cheese and red onion marmalade
Nicoise topping
Black olive tapenade
Guacamole
Goats cheese and homemade chilli jam
Dessert:
mini chocolate brownies
mini tarte tatin
mini pavlovas with seasonal fruits
mini cheesecakes
mini panna cotta
and we do loads more.
Hope thats a bit of help!

You could stuff some pimiento peppers (availible in jars from any big supermarket)with either garlic cream cheese or plain.Do some cous cous with roasted peppers.Theres always cold prawns and smoked salmon with wedges of lemon and dill.Tuna/mayo/sweetcorn pasta salad. For salad ,rocket leaves with thinly sliced parmesan is nice and classic greek salad with olives, feta, cherry tomatoes, red onion and chunks of cucumber.
The base of the cake is almost the same:
180g SR flour
3 eggs
10cl milk
150g grated gruyre cheese
10cl olive oil (or other)
pinch salt
pepper
Beat the eggs, milk, oil, salt and pepper and add this to the flour.
You then add the cheese.
Olive & Bacon cake: Add 100g bits of lean cooked smoked bacon, 100g halved stoned green olives and 100g halved stoned black olives.
Put mixture into greased loaf tin and bake for 45/50 minutes at 180C No 6.
You can add what you want to make up 300g. In France, each person seems to have their own recipe.
