Can anyone tell me some information on Aldi supermarkets please?

Aldi stores are cheap and crap! They have brands that you've never heard of and the stores are always found in sh$t towns. Their version of Walkers crisps are Sprinters, which taste like crap and are full of fat, hmmm nice!

They do seriously cheap orange juice which is ok and has no sweetners or anything. They tend to sell a bit of everything really, the last time i went in one, they had garden furniture and post-its as well as food. Oh yeah, and they do mostly non-perishable stuff. And if you live in the Wales area of the world, there's one in Ebbw Vale.

There's nothing wrong with Aldi, granted it's not brand names but most things are good quality. The wine is very good as is the fruit&veg.

Actually, Aldi sells as high quality goods as most places.  Their cereals are made by Kellogs, their meats are from small scale farms and are probably of better quality than larger stores. Much of the unknown brands are German, a country with one of the highest standards of living in the world, so not known for their "crappy" things.  The reason the stores are in less reputable areas is to keep costs low.  also they have over 7000 stores, thats more than Tesco, Asdaand Sainsbury's combined.

Aldis sell very good quality food but no brand choice. The only criticism I have is with the fresh veg. It does not last and should be eaten the same day.

My primary shopping is done in Aldi and I have no complaints.  I shop there or prices rather than because I cannot afford to go elsewhere and I have always found the quality of most of their products as good as branded names.  Their gravy granules, beans tomatoes, tinned ham,tuna,fresh bacon and chicken, cheese and butter plus fruit and veg are really good value and quality.  They also do a weekly selection of clothes, tools, electrics and electronics all at a reasonable price.  I can come out of Aldi's shop with a trolley full for �60-�80 that would cost me over �100 in Tescos.  You can always check out their bargains at the Aldi site www.Aldi.co.uk

Firstly, lobster, Kelloggs dont make cereals for anyone else.  ALDI is a 99% own brand store, but instead of boringly (or honestly) labelling everything ALDI , they have a department that exists solely to make up so called brand names for the goods, names you will never see anywhere but ALDI.  My elderly mother doesn't understand this, and believes she is buying ' branded ' goods, which she is most certainly not. So it's a bit of a con really. The quality to my mind is so so, but your'e just as cheap at Asda or Kwik Save, and at least you know what your'e buying.

Sorry senga-marie, that may be the company's motto, but in 2002 Kellog's signed an agreement to produce 5 breakfast cereals for Aldi, including the Schoko Flakes and Schoko Puffs range.  there was a backlash against the brand amid claims of selling out.  by the way, do you think that with big name brands familiar to the UK you know what you're getting?  ASDA chickens for �1.99?  quality mustn't be a priority there.

I've heard they pay their staff around �8 an hour, which is good for a supermarket. Apparently it's because they have to know the price of every item in store for the checkout? - true??

I'm an Aldi fan.  Good food at rock bottom prices.  No choice of brands but that makes shopping even quicker.  Even mr apricot can get the shopping right.  Who needs 20 different brands of baked beans anyway?  As for the fruit and veg, they sell out every day so it's always fresh.  The only goods I buy elsewhere are the things I can't buy in Aldi.  I live in Penrith Dick Cheese which is not a **** town but it is a small market town with very little choice.  Every Thursday they have specials which you may have to queue to get.  Recent purchases have been a small igloo tent for �24.99, used it and it was great, a 3 in 1 jacket for �19.99 also very good.  They print leaflets showing the next weeks specials which I never miss just in case there's something I want.

I go into Aldi in Blackpool now and then and have been inthe Leeds one too, ther stuff is fine and there offers are fine. I bought 2 sets of bicycle lights recenty that were excellent value for money. I did have to return a faulty one but they replaced it immediately,

My mate used to work in the Leeds branch and yes the checkout operatives did know the prices individually, although i think they scan now.

Lidl also pay good rates but I think someone mentioned to me once in passing that they employ you on a self employed basis.....notsure about that bit though.

MORELLO and pipsar6. Yes they do pay well about �10 per hour but it is on a self-employed basis.

i use the aldi branch in selly oak bimingham,there stores are no frills and food is taken from boxes.this is how they keep the price down,and i have always found it to be of a good quality.and lets not forget the great deals that they do, on medion computers.i bought one 3 years ago,and will be upgrading to the new titanium md8383.

I thought the tax man had view on pseudo self employed. They certainly stopped a lot of it in the building trade. I can't understand how Aldi gets away with that.
