I am assuming the the sage Mr Hughes is correct as the only other fish with roe which is regularly eaten are Lumpfish and Cod and neither are what one would term a delicacy.
A herring is a small, sea fish that lives in schools of several thousand. A sturgeon is a bony-plated fish which lives in freshwater and can live for over a hundred years and reach sizes in excess of six foot and several hundred pounds.
