Small vegetables such as baby carrots, baby courgettes, strips of red, yellow and green pepper, asparagus tips, celery sticks, radishes, cherry tomatoes etc. all add a bit of crunch, which I think is necessary. You can display them around a healthy dip or two.
flapjacks
scotch eggs
cooked chicken
pasta salads
mini pittas instead of sandwiches
deli pre made food
banana bread/ carrot cake
fruit
crisps/nuts
2x small bowls.
1 x Bottle of Balsamic Vinegar (I like fruits of the forest)
1 x Bottle of Extra virgin olive oil (I have a very anti-social garlic one)
As many types of bread as you like.
Put the oil and vinegar in the bowls and dip the bread in them to your hearts content... Yum! :c)
i made little homemade cheese burgers before we went on picnic, then warmed them up on disposable bbq with cheese on top and stuffed them into little buns - delicious!
Tortilla wraps spead with cream cheese and smoked salmon sprinkled with dill or fennel and black pepper. They can be rolled and sliced in half as normal or sliced into tiny pinwheels. They travel well too.
Don't despair at the weather--spread a table cloth on the floor, have your picnic just the same kids loveit.Do this with my grandkids when the weather cancels outdoors. There is something good about sitting on the floor being decadent with wine and lots of eatable goodies.
