My wife purchased a bread machine over the Christmas break, which has given fantastic results. However, what she is finding difficulty with, is ensuring the bread made remains as fresh as possible for as long as possible. Any tips on storing bread would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for any replies.
As you make the bread yourself you will see that you`re not adding preservatives which is why it doesn`t last awfully long. When I make a loaf, I slice it and keep a few slices in a plastic bag in the bread bin and freeze the rest.
Best thing I found was a baby bottle steriliser plastic box kept in the larder. It has some ventilation to keep mould at bay. Don't care for machines though. I knead enough for up to 4 loaves and freeze what wont keep.
Once the loaf has cooled down completely I wrap it in foil and then place in a lock and lock box so that it is airtight, I find that this works best for me.
we used to make ours from scratch but found it did not keep well. Now use Lauke breadmixes from Lakeland an d although without preservatives keeps for several days, when it gets the chance!
