Scallops with black pudding and a puree (pea or cauli)

Bruschetta is simple and ususally goes down well with our guests.
Soup is simple enough, bit of prep obviously.
A mixed salad is easy enough, add some grilled chicken, seafood perhaps
Buy some nice Pate, serve with warm rolls and a chutney
Couple of gins would go down well with me!!!
Rocket, with figs (cut across the top but not right through) Palma Ham. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar then sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese flakes. Very tasty, light and easy.
That should be Parma Ham.
I agree with pâté. There are some really nice Christmassy ones around at the moment if you don't want to make your own.
I like Jool's suggestion. I bake the figs though.
Haven't tried baking the figs. Think I'll try that - Do you serve them hot or let them go cold first?
I serve them warm. I drizzle them with a small bit of honey that goes really well with the balsamic.
pate/oatcakes,,,,,,,easy peasy .
Soup is quick and easy.
what are you serving for mains and pudding?

Roast chicken, apple crumble/trifle, cheese and biscuits
That is quite a hearty meal so I would suggest something light.

The fig suggestion is lovely especially when served warm.

A salad of pears, blue cheese and walnuts with mixed leaves and a lemony dressing.

Leek vinaigrette served on a bed of leaves with a caper and sherry vinegar dressing.

Griddled fennel, orange and watercress salad.

a vegetable soup or smoked mackerel pate
smoked salmon, onion capers and some nice bread
The easiest starter on God's green earth is tomato and mozzarella salad. Slice ripe tomatoes, add pieces of mozzarella cheese, sprinkle with fresh basil and drizzle a little olive oil over the top. Done in seconds and everyone seems to like it!
Baked Camembert? Stick it in the oven for a bit until the cheese is hot and melted then pull the lid open and get some nice bread or dough balls to dip in. A gorgeous social starter.
