my OH loves steak and mushroom pie which I make for him but would like to have pastry on the bottom , can I put puff pastry on the bottom ??? I will be freezing these too. Thanks.

I wouldn't, it won't be able to rise. If you want to put pastry top and bottom why not try it with short crust at the bottom and puff pastry on top? Don't forget to let the cooked filling go completely cold before putting it near the pastry

thanks Linda that's what I thought but I thought I would double check.,and yes I let it et cold before make the pies.
It would be better with either shortcrust or suet, puff will not rise.

Good for you putting pastry on the bottom, I hate these so called pies with only a lid of puff pastry. Coming from Lancs that is not a pie.
