Chicken Stew
My girlfriend wants me to make this:

I am going to do it in the slow cooker but want to cook it on low instead of the suggested 4 hours on high. Any idea how long? I need to go out and leave it cooking. What about the dumplings?

Simply coat your chicken in flour and fry for a few minutes in olive oil on medium heat until lightly browned on all sides. Remove the chicken and place in the slow cooker. In the same pan fry finely chopped garlic, onion, leek, celery, carrot (all finely diced) and potatoes (diced a bit bigger), fry all of this on medium heat for about 7-8 minutes, place them in the slow cooker. In the same pan add plenty of chicken stock, salt and pepper, splash of worcester sauce and a couple of tablespoons of Branston pickle, simmer gently for a few minutes then add to the slow cooker. Cook on low heat for as long as possible over 6 hours, add dumplings (I used Sainsburys own herby ones in packet, just add water) about one to two hours before serving, turning them once. It is a very tasty dish, enjoy.
four hours on high will frazzle that cats, four or five hours on low will be fine
as pasta says waves at pasta, turn it up to high when you put the dumplings in, cook without the lid on and keep an eye on them for between 30 mins and an hour, depending on taste/your cooker
they won't crisp on top, so if that's what you want you'll have to put them under the grill to finish
