Late this afternoon I bought some chicken from a high street butcher. It's on a tray covered in cling film. When I got it home I split the cling film - and it absolutely reeks!! The shop is closed now so I can't take it back today. There's no way it's going in my fridge so my only solution was to wrap the whole lot, still in its tray, in more cling film and put in the freezer to take back on Monday. I'm guessing I'm going to have a fight to recover my money. What would you have done with it?
when you say it pongs - exactly what of? a gone off smell or just the raw chicken juices smell after being in cling film?
is there an expiry date on it?
I do worry sometimes when I see meat left in shop windows with the sun blazing down on it! Good luck and I'm sure if you take the receipt with you and explain then you'll get a refund. Has the shop maybe got an answerfone where you could at least log a complaint?
I binned mine too - that happened to me about 4 weeks ago - I had defrosted a pack and then kept smelling and smelling - thinking - is the "normal" smell of chicken - however, threw it out and bought more in supermarket and there is absolutely no smell of a chicken at all - bin it.
