Want to make a small unusual birthday cake. The decoration of it is not important, as I can manage that myself. I have tried coffee & walnut, chocolate truffle, chocolate orange, Victoria Sandwich, lemon/orange, banana and carrot cake, plus a range of dried fruit cakes. Any other tried and tested recipes please?
My OH got a white chocolate and brown chocolate layered cake with ganache icing and white chocolate maltesers on top for his birthday (Good Food Magazine). His other favourite is a coconut cake with coconut buttercream and raspberry jam in (also Good Food Mag). You can't beat a simple victoria sandwich with cream and strawberries.
Marbled cake. Cake mixture halved, cocoa in one half, leave the other plain. Drop a spoon of the mixture in baking tin alternately, it will create a marble effect when baked.
