It is not the fastest card on the market, but it will be an improvement over your current card.
However, performance will depend on other factors - how fast your processor is, how much ram you have, type of motherboard etc.

Forget my previous answer, I have been reading reviews of the 8600 based cards, and they aren't supposed to be that great.
I have just bought a 320Mb Asus 8800GTS for 185 from a computer fair (40 cheaper than anywhere else).
And you can really tell the difference.
However, I have a 650W power supply and a large case, and a quality motherboard, to put it in.
It is a large card and weighs about 2lb, and takes up two slots worth of space, so you need to make sure it will fit.
