WinRar problems

I have a large (4.2GB) movie file made up of 88 Rar files which I am having problems extracting.Normally when I extract the files using WinRar,a single .bin file is created,which I then burn to disc using Nero,but when I try to extract these 88 files I get the following message:

There is not enough space on the disc.Write error-only NTFS file system supports files larger than 4GB.

I do not understand where the 'not enough space on disc' bit comes from because I am trying to extract the files to a hard drive which has plenty of space availabale.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Check that your disk where temporary files are stored has enough space - often programs such as Winrar or Winzip will extract to the Temp directory before copying them to the final location

i suspect you have dl'ed this from a bit torrent site ? if so,visit their forums as someone will probably have had a similar problem

Isn't there some technical bumph about old Windows file systems (FAT32, FAT rahter than today's NTFS) not being able to cope with single files of over 4GB?

What file system is yours? (right click on any "C Drive" icon and choose "properties").

stevie21 is correct. Fat32 is restricted to 4GB. Basically the only way of extracting would be on another hardisk with NTFS.

Thanks for all of your answers.I have checked my drives and they are FAT32.The link that Stevie21 put on his answer suggests I should format my partitions to NTFS.Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to do this?

TEAK36, you just beat me to it. I've just read (whilst looking for something totally different) that it's possible to convert the file system.
For some reason I'd earlier assumed that you'd have to wipe your hard drive completely, loss all data and reinstall the Operating System but apparently not...

Click Start, then run. Type "command" in the box that appears (without the quotes) and in the new black window that then appears (called the "command prompt") type the following
convert C: /fs:ntfs

Once you've then rebooted your file system will update and you can tinker with your 4GB files.

Stevie, cheers for the info, but I think I have found an easier way to do this.My hard drive is partitioned,and my D drive is empty.I right clicked on drive D and selected the format option.I then selected NTFS, and it took about 15 minutes to format.My D drive is now NTFS, and last night I was able to extract the Rar files and burn the resulting file to DVD.
