Theres a prog on tele tonight about a woman who spends 14 hours a day on Second Life and she has got very involved with a character on there. She is in the USA and this male character lives in the UK. Now I have had a look at Second Life and you build yourself into your fantasy personna, this woman is coming or has come over here to meet her virtual partner. Is there anyone on here who goes on Second Life, what do you think of it ?? I personally think she's barmy.

I'm confused - you're saying someone spends 14 hours on the computer to speak to her boyfriend that actually ins't real?
Spending 14 hours a day on the comp is nothing, wussy to spend less, ask the web's number one fantasist.
I had never heard of second life until I saw something on tv about it a few weeks ago. Apparently theres lots of secret places where paedophiles play out sick fantasies. Personally I wouldnt go near the place.
Puss ive read about this site but never went there.Ihabited by many people. To some it is reality.Theres also a very dark side to it too.

Very dangerous and not my idea of fun.Alternatively ask the webs no.1 self professed fantasist.Whiffy.

Yes and no Beads what happens is you join up to Second Life and you make yourself into a person you want to be, for instance if you are 20 stone no teeth and a serial killer you can make yourself look amazing and you can dress in the most amazing outfits the men can give themselves fab bodies ie Rambo types, but you can attach yourself to someone and go into different areas, some are innocent like beach or shopping but some areas are really iffy like sexual and worse. It is worth having a look at this site just to see how it works but that is as far as it goes.
I don't go on second life, but I am a pirate on the high seas and fight sea monsters, interact with other pirates, have a house and a pet.

Theres other similar sites.IMVU where you create an avatar and its all a bit strange in my opinion.

So this is in your First Life, so to speak, Ethel? Makes my days at my desk seem rather bland.
that sounds like great fun Ethel :D Do you get to say shiver me timbers too? :D
Isn't it just a more advanced SIMS - or am I way off the mark?
Yarrrr! Yer have to use proper pirate speak.

Puss, my ex, is flying over to Kansas in 5 weeks to meet a girl he hooked up with on facebook 2 weeks ago. I can only pray he really likes it there.
Is that crazy yank bint for real?Flying to meet some guy whos that mad ??
actually, Shakespeare was going to write a play called Ethel the Pirate's Daughter, now I remember, but he got sidetracked by Gwyneth.
Yeah, he met Gwyenth while in Venice fishing for sharks I hear.

So let me get this straight.... this is a game where you can reinvent yourself just to go cyberly shopping or to the beach or to have sex? Rather than actually do any of those things not in front of a screen?

And I thought those myspace/facebook sites were bad....
My dad works in IT, he says that some of the guys that work for him actually go home and do a job on second life. I was a little surprised.

Doc Spock like it over there though, I think.
Hi puss, I watched the programme. That woman flew all the way over from USA to meet that bloke. He was so lazy he didnt even meet her at the airport!

Plus the fact that she was married, she didnt work, so I guess the husband paid for her flight over too.

And the couple who are now expecting a baby (did you see the colour of their teeth!) Well he left a relationship of 20 odd years to meet this woman from Second Life.

I just watched that. I know people who have met online and then got married, known people who've flown across the sea to meet people they've met online.

No different to having a penpal and all that letter-writing that people used to do in the olden days.

And secret places where people act out secret fantasies? Surely there are real places where people act out secret, and maybe sick fantasies? They might be next door to you! There's a brothel or three down the road from where I live and I'm sure some fantasies get acted out there! I saw a lady in a bunnygirl outfit pop her head out once from one of them.

I had a look at Second Life and couldn't get far at all - kept flying into invisible walls. I think someone asked if they could get jiggy with me too.

Don't we often pretend to be people we're not? Are we all who we say we are on here?
Weeelllll..whatever makes people happy. Think they all ought to walk the plank myself. x
