Playstation Game - Please help!

Can anyone please advise the name of a Playstation 1 game for me, it might be on PS2 as well but I'm not sure.

It was a car racing game, but with violence.  You'd drive around this course and on the way you'd pick up boxes and weapons and use them to blow up things such as buildings (barns and stuff), and you could use certain tricks to propel yourself over large buildings etc.  The aim of the game was to finish first (or finish at all!)  It is not 'Mashed' but cannot remember the name.

Can anyone please suggest any game names that it might be?

Thanks for the great tip.  That wasn't it, but looks good.  Found out the name I was looking for was 'Vigilante 8', on the PS1.  Thanks for your help!
