My mother and her five siblings all served in WW2. They are all dead now but I can't find their service records as technically they could still be alive.
Is there a rule about not releasing war service records until there is no possibility that someone might be alive??
Or any other way of tracking their war records as so far I can get nothing.
You can apply to the MoD for their war record if you fill in a form on line and produce a death certificate.
They will give the bare bones to anyone but sligtly more detail to the next of kin.
I am having a similar problem with my father's record. Details of those who died are available but if they survived the war then the MoD are still hanging on to them - frustratingly....
The only other way that has been suggested to me is to approach the museum of the unit they served in.
To do that you have to know what unit, you still have to prove your right to know and they still may decline to give you any details.....
