Agree with Svejk- they do seem a lovely couple and also seem to genuinely care about who or what they're seeing.

No, nothing to do with money. The Septics dont have much history so they love to hang on to some of ours (from a distance), they also dont have the concept of a Royal family.

Whilst I agree that is a real problem Micky I dont think it counts as far as the Royal family are concerned as they have always been popular and fawned over. (But not by me!)

well yes compared to us - the Americans DO have lots of money but I dont think that is the cause

weecalf you obviously have Republican views so its pointless trying to explain. Let me try and put it this way -my surgeon/ lawyer/ financial advisor is no 'better' a person than me but I respect his opinions and listen to what he says. The Royal family do a job and this job carries with it certain protocols -the present Royal Family did not write these protocols and in fact often find them constraining and embarrassing (especially Princess Anne) They are an ambassador for Britain and would be disrespectful to the USA if they arrived off the plane in onesies or jeans and T shirts. The USA love Royalty and love 'fawning' over them -William and Kate asked that no one bow yet people did -they love to bow and curtsy. I'm sure they will meet people who will not Bow and Cursty and I'm sure those people will not be taken to the Tower never to be seen again.

The revenue they drum up in trade links/deals and tourism as a result of 'pressing the flesh' is enormous.
They're actually very hard working, not to mention the future King is a trained Search and Rescue pilot who will shortly resume his career, once his public duties at the behest of the government are fulfilled.
