How To Inform Income Tax People Of A Death?
10 Answers
I lost my Dad a week ago, but I can't seem to find out how to inform the income tax people of his death. It may be that my Mum is entitled to a rebate so I'd like to do it quickly. Dad was 82, Mum is 81.
How do I find a phone number for them? I don't know where his tax office is either.

If he was a form filler then his tax return should have been in 31 Jan 16 for the year ending 5 April 2015 - and there is another one for 5 April 2016 which is due yes 31 Jan 2017 but you just as well get on with it. Being dead is an allowable reason for a late return
The tax man will add the two together after the separate calculations and tell you if there is an overall rebate ( = offset ) . I had a fren who died 13 April so I was SURE that tax owed for that year was zero and well inside the personal allowance - and they said sorry he owed on the previous year...

Sorry for your loss peachy. I lost my dad last October and used the 'tell us once' system. I still phoned the necessary departments. My dad's tax was fine but on telling the state pensions people was informed that my mum would get extra weekly pension which was paid almost immediately. When I phoned his works pension people, they sent a form for my mum to sign and she was transferred a lump sum. Everything was very simple. I've just completed and sent off the probate forms as my dad had cash in two bank accounts and those forms were quite straightforward too.
