I have recently found FreeBMD (Free Births Marriages and Deaths) whilst researching my family tree and noted they are seeking volunteers to assist with the transcription of the huge numbers of BMD records currently held in various formats so they will be available online. Have you ever volunteered for this? How was it?
Thanks.

I did it a few years back. They send you a photocopied page from one of the registers and the program for transcribing to. You can take as much time as you want to do it. The same page is also sent to another volunteer as a check before they are put onto the main website. It is self rewarding if you are into researching your history.

Thanks beckyboo. It does sound interesting and a massive but worthwhile task. I shall look into it further.
