My brother was adopted, however I have no papers except a short birth certificate. Both he and my parents are dead. All i know is it was done via the army as my dad was a serving soldier at the time. I am curious as to the circumstances of his adoption, his son asks questions I am unable to answer. s there any way I can trace the adoption and/or his birth parents? Thanks in advance for your help.

If he was adopted in England or Wales you should be able to get a copy of his adoption certificate. Trace it on ancestry.com or 1837online.co.uk. This won't however give his birth parents. Whether you as a relative would be allowed access to this information I really don't know. You would have to contact social services in the area he was adopted in. Good luck.

Thanks will have a go at that once everything calms down after Christmas and the New Year.
If you can find the adoptive birth certificate the date of birth will be his original and correct one. It is possible to go to the birth certificates for that paticular date and find that a small number of children born on that day were adopted. It may be possible by a process of elimination to find the most likely one. This will give at least the name of the mother. It is slow and tedious but it can work. It did for me.

Thank you, I have tried this and drawn a blank which adds to the mystery. I am still trying as I must have missed something.
