Unable to find record of death or certificate

Am searching for a relative's death certificate. He was obviously alive when his son was born in 1932 as he followed up with a daughter in 1934 (March), however he was dead by the time of the daughter's wedding in 1952. I have searched every quarter from 1933 (in case he died before his daughter was born) right up to the daughter's wedding, but no trace of him whatsoever. Can anyone help. Were those posted missing during the war ever registered as dead?
If anyone is able to help I would be very grateful - have hit this brick wall now for a good six months and no idea where to go from here. Relative was Albert Edward Cable, born 1900 Uxbridge, but lived most of his live in Essex.

Dotty - I can't thank you enough for this. As I said I have trawled through the BDM records on Ancestry religeously for months and failed to find him. I see now that Q2 of 1947 has never been offered to me, because of some glitch in the system, as he appeared at the very end of the B's. Am wondering how you managed it?? I have ordered the certificate already and am very VERY grateful.

Hi Tewart, glad to help, I have often said on here that Ancestry.co.uk is not that user friendly, especially for the GRO index, I use findmypast.com. it is a bit dearer, and actually does not yet have all the census years and is lacking in some counties for 1871, but it is excellent for the GRO index and also has all the GRO military indices, and they are so easy to check, plus, unlike ancestry, once you have checked a quarter, the colour chnaged to red as a marker, even if you return looking for the same name, and so it is more efficient.

I have found that when doing searches on the GRO on ancestry certain results are missing.

If you notice on certain pages there are handwritten entries at the bottom. These entries would normally fit in the middle somewhere.

So say the indexes where from bra to bro then this is what should be in the search parameters but if there are handwritten entries for example starting bre then whoever transcribed it put the parameters as bra to bre. so any names that appear between the bre and bro dont show up when you do a search.

I tend to just browse my searches although it can be a bit time consuming.

Yes - I know what you mean, it can be very time consuming. Thanks for the tip - I'd not thought about the handwritten items (you always think that they relate to someone else's tree, don't you?!)
