Freemantle
1 Answers
I'm trying to connect, if possible, Jonas Freemantle, stable keeper, of St. Crispin Street, London, to Jonas Freemantle, born 1760 at Linchmere, Surrey. Jonas was the father of Richard Freemantle, born 1794. I have not been able to find a marriage registration for Jonas before 1794, but I did find one for a later date, which is likely for one of the three other Jonas Freemantle's that I found i the IGI. Richard was preceded by three other siblings, but I haven't obtained their birth registrations as yet.
Anyone have any ideas on how to prove or disprove this connection?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.You will only find baptisms for Richards' siblings pre 1794. You should try to look at the Primary source for the baptisms and marriages in the parish Registers, the information on the IGI is sparse, there may be more information in the actual entry in the register.
Ir is also possible that the burial registers for St peters Linchmere would help you check the deaths of the family.
The Land Tax Assessments from 1784 to about 1824 would list anyone owning or leasing land ot property and there may be a reference to the stables and who owned them. Probably they were part of the manor of linchmere, which belonged to the Viscount Montague at that time, it is likely that the manoral records are in the Surrey record office, though the village is now in west Sussex.
To establish a link or eliminate other potential Freemantles, you will need to look at this sort of records.
i suggest you contact the west surrey family history society

and see if they can help locate the records you need to use, you are at the stage where the onlinbe resources will not really help you anymore and real family history research begins.
