Hi again scooby, I had trouble finding Mercy Sutcliff(e) on the 1861 census but I've found her now living with her daughter Matilda (Farnsworth) and her family, on that entry Mercy's birthplace is goven as Greasley. it is interesting that one of Matilda's children was born in Willenhall, Staffs (Samuel aged 5 in 1861), I wonder if before 1851 the family had connections there? What happened to daughter Ann who was 12 in 1841? Is she married by 1851? I wonder if her father was recorded as deceased on her marriage entry?
I agree that the marriage entry on the IGi for Mary Shawcross and George Sutcliffe but be an errot in the transcription for Mercy Shawcross.
I've found Matildas baptism at the Wesleyan Methodist chapem in Belper, 26 Jan 1832 (born 27th Dec 1831)
William was baptised there too 17 June 1829 He married Lydia Wright at Codnor and Loscoe, Derby 25 Oct 1852, he was 23 Lydia was 18, George is down but not shown as deceased.
Eldest daughter Ann was baptised 3 Apr 1825 at Alfreton to George and Mary Suttliff!
(I have just found an amazing link on the IGI, a Mrs Anne Sutcliffe death in Derby, wife of John Sutcliffe and she is given as 'of Erringden, Yorhskire' that means the actual place i was born!!! It was owned by the Sucliffe familt back to the 1500s, that links the Yorkshire Sutcliffe family owning all that Manor with Derby, I'm well chuffed with that!
John Sutcliffe married Anne at heptonstall, same church my parents married in, but I think John was already living in Derby, and born there, mmmm it's fascinating.
