My GGrandfather pte John stewart died in southern Iraq and is buried there he died in 1916. I am trying to find where he is buried and what regiment he was in.
I am also trying to find the link between him and my grandmother Ester byers Stewart born in 1906. I also know his name appears on the war memorial in kings park Dalkeith Midlothian Scotland

No problem. The Stewarts are a bit of a mystery on the censuses - too common a surname possibly but the Husband family were easy.
1891 - 16 Market Place, Cockpen - James 33, River Tweed Policeman! born in Cockpen. Esther 34, born Kirkpatrick Fleming. Three children Archibald, 9 born Lasswade, Frances, 5 born Dalhouse Cockpen and Christina, 3 born Coldstream.
1901 census - Waterside Cottage, Gorebridge. James now a coal miner. His mother, also Christina, 86 living with them and an adopted son Robert Paterson 2.

Hi there Dundurn, I have just found out through my auntie that her sister maybe had the only picture of John Stewart. Before she died. The good news is that her oldest daughter took all the documents and pictures.
I have been told that the picture was taken with his army uniform, so I will wait and see what turns up Cheers Anders
