Is there a way on ancestry.co.uk of finding out who lived in a certain house in a census. I'm being asked to pay a credit for every page I look at and as I'm on pay as you go they'll soon run out.

yes you need to search for the street address in the search box and then just scroll through the enumeration district, mind you I think everytime you view a page you'll be charged, what's the address and which year and I'll look at it for you

Hi dotty
Lots going on here so just seen your answer, sorry. I'm looking for Feldom Farm (could be Low or East) in 1901 or better still 1911 census. This is in North Yorkshire near Kirby Hill. Looking for a family named Longstaff or similar. Hope you can help.
Ok will have a look, found this, it's a trade directory from marske 1890:
Farmers:
* Allinson James (and stonemason), Skelton
* Atkinson Alfred, Park top
* Brown Christopher, Telfit house
* Brown John William, Skelton
* Brown Thos. (and cattle dealer), Manor house
* Cleminson James, Jingle pot
* Hodgson Henry, Moor house
* Iveson John, Orgate farm
* Metcalfe Tsaac, West Feldom
* Mudd Mrs. Ann and Sons (Thos. and John Lambert), Cordilleras
* Peacock James, High Feldom
* Robinson William Henry, Applegarth
* Thompson Oswald Baynes, Hollings
* Thwaites Mrs. Jane and Sons, East Feldom
* Welford William, Low Feldom
* Wilson Christopher, Bushy park
* Wilson John James
Feldom is a small hamlet, consisting of a few scattered farms, situated on the moor, about 1½ miles N. of Clints. It belonged to the monks of Jervaulx until the dissolution of monasteries. It is now the property of J. T. D'Arcy Hutton, Esq.
Ok I've found the farms at feldom on the 1901, they are in district 10 of Richmond, under Marske. RD13/4610 folio 41 (page 6 and 7)
The 4 farms are all occupied, I've not found a Lonstaff at any of them, the names are:

Coatesworth; Thwaites and Metcalfe,

The Coaresworths were on 2 of the farms and so were the thwaites (seem to have intermarried lol)

I've been through all the district and no longstaffs but it is only 7 pages so not very populated

Can't look at 1911 but i bet if craft searches for William Thwaites born 1876 Feldom in 1911 she'll get the right RD ref and be able to search by place
1911 - Can't find any Longstaff names in Marske. Only two references with 'Feldom', one East Feldom with William Thwaites as above, and High Feldom - Leonard Hodgson age 42, farmer; and family.
actually Leonard Hodgson was farming one of the feldom farms in 1901.
1911 William Thwaites is at East Feldom, Clints, Marske with his wife, uncle and loads of in-laws
findmypast won't let me search with the RD number without a street name...
The 4 feldon farms are named on the 1891 as West, Low, High and east craft.
reading your previous researc accounts coccinelle it seems to point to the feldom farms being in the hands of others on the 1901 census but they could be related to your Longstaff line
This only mentions 2 farms at Feldom

I've tried to search the 1901 for a Longstaff with any link to the Marske area but nothing is coming close at all. it wasn't a densly populated area by any means and those farms stayed in the same families over a few generations from what I can gather, what is the very earliest date that you have a definate residence for your ancestor?
There were definately 4 farms with the Feldom name used in their census address and all four are also listed in the trade directory i mention up above ^

Wow, so sorry not to have been in touch earlier than now. I'm really grateful for everything you've all done. So it seems that the Longstaff family weren't the owners of feldom East or Feldom Low in 1901. Could they have been later in the 20s? because if they were occupants they would show on the census. As you say, dotty they're probably related through a female line. No definite time at that address other than in 1928: this Longstaff 'grandfather' met my 'grandmother' if you see what I mean and produced my Mum!!!
Honestly, I'm really grateful for all your help but everything seems to come to a dead end.
